KIA IS SET to unveil its own infotainment system, called Kia UVO. Developed in partnership with Microsoft, the Kia UVO system is built on the same Windows Embedded Auto software that drives Ford's Sync technology and Fiat's Blue&Me system.

A joint project between Microsoft and Hyundai-Kia, Kia is the first of the partnered Korean carmakers to announce plans for the system.

Ford's Sync system allows voice-activated control of the car's audio system - included connected portable devices such as the Apple iPod - along with hands-free phone control, GPS and real-time traffic information.

While Ford does not offer its Sync system in its Australian range, Fiat's Blue&Me is available locally with the Alfa Romeo MiTo.

Specific details for the UVO system have yet to be revealed, but Kia has announced today that it will reveal the technology at next week's International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
