HYUNDAI has made the most of the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, revealing a new direct-injected version of its Lambda V6, along with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The news follows the recent launch of the brand's direct-injected 1.6 litre Theta II engine, and its new six-speed automatic transmission.
The direct-injected version of the 3.3 litre V6 produces 220kW, compared to the 185kW of its predecessor.
Whether any Australian-delivered models will see the new engine remains to be seen. Right now, the only Hyundai offering a six-cylinder engine is the Grandeur - more likely to be retired in the near future than updated with a new engine, although the 2010 update revealed in Korea last year could be a possibility.
Hyundai also confirmed that it will roll out direct-injection versions of its other engines in the near future, including the 3.8 litre petrol engine driving the rear-wheel-drive Genesis Sedan and Genesis Coupe models (neither is available in Australia).
The Korean carmaker also revealed a new eight-speed automatic transmission, although unlike the six-speed box offered with Santa Fe, the ix35 and the upcoming i45, the new transmission is likely to see duty in the Genesis and Equus luxury models only.
