Hyundai has issued a recall for its i30 small car, due to a potential problem with the electronic stability control (ESC).

A total of 37,334 vehicles are included in the recall, sold in Australia between December 2010 and March 2012.

The carmaker has identified a weakness with the ESC electronic control case, which may have been damaged during installation.

If damaged, the casing may crack and allow moisture to affect internal electronic components. These components could eventually short, with could cause the ESC to malfunction.

A non-functioning ESC system could lead to a loss of control while driving, as the system will be unable to assist the driver during an emergency driving situation as it normally would.
