Hong Kong’s 1000th Ferrari Delivered To Owner On A Traditional Chinese Junk

Following its best year on record and taking inspiration from Enzo Ferrari’s quote, “There’ll always be people crazy enough to buy a Ferrari,” Ferrari has celebrated its 1000th Hong Kong sale by delivering the car to its new owner on the back of a traditional Chinese junk.

Ferraris usually arrive by air, but for an occasion as special as this, the Italians have embraced Chinese culture to give Hong Kong’s 1000th Fezza – a 612 Scaglietti – a proper send off. The car was presented to its new owner Didier Li on board the junk ‘Huan’.

The Ferrari brand first arrived in Hong Kong 45 years ago while the island was still under British rule, making it one of the oldest Ferrari markets in the region.

Beginning sales in the early 1960s, Ferraris started appearing in Hong Kong only a decade after they first arrived in Australia and New Zealand.

In line with the company’s best ever year, sales in Hong Kong climbed in 2008, with 115 Ferraris sold on the famous Chinese island.

By comparison, deliveries in Australia numbered 163 in total.

Japanese buyers took home a total of 433 Ferraris in 2008, but with a total market share four times bigger than Australia’s, the land down under beat out Japan on a market share basis.

China as a nation saw 212 new Ferrari owners in 2008, overtaking Australia’s tally for the first time.
