DESTINED FOR SALE in India and other emerging markets, Honda is set to reveal its New Small Concept at the New Delhi Auto Show next month.

Little else has been revealed about the latest in a long line of new concepts for the Japanese carmaker - a list which includes this month's P-NUT and October's EV-N (above) and Skydeck concepts.

While the ultra-small EV-N concept features an experimental all-electric powertrain, the new concept is expected to feature a small-capacity internal combustion engine.

Focusing on the Indian market, Honda's New Small Concept will compete with the likes of Tata and Maruti Suzuki, along with new models from Toyota and Nissan.

Honda's smallest offering in the Indian market currently is the Jazz, with a price of around AU$17,000. By comparison, the Tata Nano starts at around $2200.

Toyota's upcoming Entry Family Car, destined for India along with Russia and Latin America, is expected to sell for under $10,000.

Toyota, the world’s biggest carmaker, said it plans to begin production of the new car in India late next year, with Brazilian production due in 2011.

In other markets, Toyota offers an ultra-small car known as the Toyota iQ, powered by small three- and four-cylinder engines ranging in capacity from 1.0 litre to 1.4 litres.
