While it's doom and gloom over at GM, Ford and even Toyota, Honda's Australian arm appears to be doing quite well despite the tumultuous economic climate.  Against the trend into the black hole of despair, Honda Australia has recorded its all-time best sales figures for the month of October.

Largely thanks to outstanding sales of the Civic and a boost from the all-new Accord Euro and Jazz, Honda Australia sold a record 5,145 vehicles last month, a one percent increase over the same period last year. The company also increased its overall market share from 5.7 percent to 6.5 percent while its slice of the passenger car market improved to 9.3 percent - a move which undoubtedly owes much to the recent shift by Aussie motorists to more fuel-efficient cars.

Honda Australia Senior Director Lindsay Smalley was delighted with Honda's strong sales performance, and was certain the company would be able to build upon last month's numbers and take advantage of the growing demand for more economical vehicles.

“This was a wonderful result for Honda and I am especially pleased with the very strong sales of the new Jazz, Accord Euro and the on-going strong performance of the Civic sedan. There is no doubt the market competitiveness will heat up even further but we are confident we have the right mix of cars for today’s consumers.”
