Holden Boosting V6 Engine Assembly To Fill Overseas Orders

HOLDEN HAS ANNOUNCED today that strong international demand for its global V6 engine will see production at its Port Melbourne plant this year increased by 6500 units. The news follows a similar announcement last year that saw engine production grow then from 320 to 440 per day.

Orders for the Holden-built global V6 engines include a 3.0 litre V6 for GM's China plant, a 3.2 litre for Daewoo in South Korea - where the Captiva is built - and the turbo-charged 2.8 litre V6 powering the US-market Cadillac SRX and the Opel Insignia OPC.

To meet the demand, Holden has added an extra 14 six-month contract positions at its Port Melbourne assembly line, filled by employees from Holden's Elizabeth plant in South Australia.

Holden will also continue building engines for former GM stablemate Saab, the Swedish carmaker continuing to cooperate with GM as it works to find its own engine and platform solutions for future models.
