Looking more like something from the upcoming Death Race movie, Mercedes Benz's SLC supercar was spotted testing in prototype form recently, showing off its hallmark Gullwing doors to great effect.

Despite the heavy camouflage, we can still tell a few things about the AMG-developed SLC. Firstly (and perhaps most obviously), those gullwing doors channel the spirit of Benz's first supercar, the iconic 1955 300SL, while that cab-rear layout and huge gap between the passenger compartment and the front axle is reminiscent of the current SLR.

It's hard to tell whether it's just an effect of the riveted-on camouflage or not, but it also appears that the 300SL's large and upright front grille could also make an appearance on the SLC, which would certainly give the high-powered coupe a look all of its own within the M-B line up.

Mercedes have gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal the finer details of their next performance flagship, so there's not a lot else that can be said about the fibreglass-clad exterior of the prototype.

Hardware specs are still pretty much non-existent, but current speculation puts the SLC's power output at around 447kW from an AMG-tweaked 6.3-litre V8. We'll have more information for you as it comes.
