AS PREDICTED last month, the Ford Territory has been awarded a 5-Star Crash Safety Rating in the latest round of ANCAP testing.

Previous ANCAP testing showed that the 4-Star Territory had been close to a top score since its introduction in 2004, held back only by the absence of an audible passenger seatbelt warning as standard fitment.

As with most cars fitted with similar technology, the seatbelt reminder gives an audible and dash-light signal if either of the front seat occupants have not belted up once the vehicle is moving.

"The Territory has maintained a reputation as one of the safest vehicles on Australian roads since it was first introduced in 2004," Ford Australia President and CEO, Marin Burela said.

"It was the first locally-manufactured vehicle to be fitted with an electronic stability control system, as well as side curtain airbags and a reverse camera, while it also boasts an exceptionally strong passenger safety cell.

The SYII update earlier this year saw the inclusion of curtain airbags as standard across the range.

Among the safety features already standard with the Territory are ABS brakes and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), dual front airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners and side airbags.
