F1: Schumacher Signs On With Mercedes GP For 2010 Season

F1 CHAMPION MICHAEL SCHUMACHER has confirmed that he will be coming out of retirement for the 2010 Formula One season, racing under the flag of the Mercedes GP team (formerly Brawn GP).

Schumacher, who has seven Driver's Championship titles under his belt, will race alongside Mercedes teammate (and fellow German) Nico Rosberg.

Schumacher will also be reunited with Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn, who, as technical director of Benetton and Ferrari, helped Schumacher achieve his seven championship wins.

40 year-old Schumacher was originally slated to make a return to the F1 grid with Ferrari as a stand-in for Felipe Massa, who suffered severe head injuries at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this year.

Neck injuries sustained in a superbike crash stopped the planned Ferrari drive, but Schumacher's willingness to return to the field meant a comeback was definitely on the cards.

Ferrari's commitment to Massa and Fernando Alonso for the 2010 season precluded Schumacher from returning to his former team, but the German said the opportunity to once again work with Ross Brawn made the Mercedes GP team a more attractive proposition.

Schumacher has reportedly signed a contract worth €7 million for the 2010 season, which kicks off at Bahrain on March 14.
