Australian F1 hopeful Daniel Ricciardo has secured a clean sweep of race wins during the opening weekend of the British Formula 3 Championship at Oulton Park.

Ricciardo secured both victories in commanding style, jumping his rivals on the grid to establish an early advantage and cruise to the chequered flag.

The 19-year old was understandably rapt with the result, which puts him 12 points clear at the top of the championship standings.

“It's a dream start to the championship, a perfect weekend for me,” he said. “It is going to increase my confidence heading into the next race.

“We still have got to work hard and its probably not going to become this easy for too long so I need to keep my feet on the ground and try to keep pushing.

“All I can do is improve because the car is still fairly new to me so there is still a learning curve to gain.”

Starting from second on the grid in race one, Ricciardo began in stunning fashion, capitalising on an error from teammate Max Chilton, who received a one-minute penalty for jumping the start.

Ricciardo wasn't able to rest on his laurels though, fending off a stern challenge from Nick Tandy to secure victory, 2.5 seconds ahead of the 24-year old Briton.

His victory in race two was even more impressive, having to twice outgun his opponents after the race was restarted before again establishing the pace at the front of the pack.

“We had two starts (in the second race) because of a red flag but I managed to nail both of them. From their I really had to do my own race,” he said.

“Each lap I'd watch my lap times and try to stay as consistent as possible. In the end it was enough and the car was great. It made my job easier.”

The second meeting of the championship is set to take place at Donnington Park in two weeks time, but ongoing concerns regarding its safety license threaten the event.
