BRIDGESTONE HAS confirmed today that after 12 years of involvement - two as the series' sole tyre supplier - it will exit Formula One at the end of 2010, the end of its current contract with the FIA.

According to reports out of Japan today, Toyota is considering an exit of its own, calling an extraordinary Board meeting for Wednesday to decide its F1 future.

Citing the "impact of the continuing evolution of the business environment", Bridgestone has announced that it will look to focus its resources on developing technologies more directly related to the company's core business - consumer road tyres.

Despite its exit from F1 at the end of next year, Bridgestone will continue its involvement with MotoGP and the GP2 series.

The FIA must now decide on either seeking a new official supplier, or to return to the formula used in earlier years with each team striking its own tyre deal.

Toyota Considering Quitting Formula One: Report

JAPANESE NEWSPAPER Mainichi Shimbun reported today that Toyota is considering making the 2009 F1  championship - where it finished 5th - its last.

The report said that the Japanese carmaker had intended to continue in F1 through to 2012 but that the global financial crisis has caused it to reconsider.

According to the report, Toyota will look at selling its team in a deal similar to that struck between Honda and Brawn GP (the latter winning this year's F1 championship).

Recently appointed Toyota President Akio Toyoda - a racing and sportscar enthusiast - is expected to make an announcement in the next day.
