Why should only two people have all the fun of hitting more than 400km/h? Bugatti is apparently asking itself that same question.

Auto Express claims the Volkswagen-owned company is looking to produce a four-door stablemate to its manic Veyron supercar.

Reportedly scheduled for debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Bugatti Royale would arrive in time to mark the 100th anniversary of the brand.

While the illustrations have Veyron written all over them, the inspiration for the car supposedly comes from the legendary 1927 Type 41 Royale. If it goes ahead, expect limited production and a sumptuous interior with seating for four and 'usable' cargo space.

AE also claims that Bugatti may work in conjunction with Bentley to complete the project, with the front engine platform of the next Bentley Arnage possibly providing the basis for the four-door Bug'.

The Royale is to keep the 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine, seven-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive layout of the Veyron, but the engine will now appear ahead of the cabin rather than behind it. Considering the sheer mass of that mammoth engine, we've no idea how.

All things being equal, the Royale would become the fastest four-door saloon in the world, with a top speed of over 400km/h (250mph).

As Bugatti is also said to be readying a Veyron Super GT for its 100th anniversary, we're expecting news to continue to trickle out of the company as the Frankfurt Show draws near, so keep your dials locked on TMR.
