BMW will be introducing AWD to their 335 series coupe and sedan in early 2008, to create what will quite possibly be the ultimate current model BMW 3-Series. No, I haven’t forgotten the M3 but doesn’t a twin-turbocharged six with AWD sound more interesting and potentially more effective for the majority of drivers?

The 335xi uses BMW’s xDrive system which provides infinitely variable torque distribution between the front and rear wheels.

Despite the usual weight penalty associated with an AWD system, the 335xi is actually quicker than the RWD only 335i. The manual version knocks one tenth off the 0-100km/h time and the auto finds two tenths thanks to the extra grip, with times of 5.2 and 5.3 seconds respectively.

Australian pricing and delivery information is not yet known. First deliveries in North America are expected in March of 2008 and we will provide further details as they come to hand.
