There is every chance that 2007 will be the first year in Australia’s automotive history when more than one million new cars are sold in a calendar year. As Australians frantically stock up on mini-franks, party-pies and bon-bons in preparation for the ensuing celebrations, Audi have issued a press release regarding their record sales.

Audi have for the first time ever sold more than 500,000 vehicles in a first half year and are staring down the barrel at topping 1 million sales for 2007, up on their 2006 worldwide sales of 905,000 cars. Which all tends to make our pending celebrations look a little lame…

Audi have experienced record sales across 41 worldwide markets with an across the board average sales increase of 9.8 percent. They have achieved record market share in Germany with a 7.9 percent increase in their home market sales.

Audi sales in Australia have increased by 42.8 percent to 3,819 vehicles for the first six months of 2007. The same period in 2006 saw the sale of 2,674 Audi vehicles in this country.

Audi is targeting the sale of 1 million vehicles in 2008 but may achieve this a year earlier if their current momentum is maintained during the second half of this year.
