THE BATTLE has raged since the first turbo found its way into a car, but now it's settled: turbo power beats displacement.

V8 fans, your hate mail can be addressed to... Alright, so maybe it's not that clear-cut, but with almost 90 percent of all new 2009 Audi A4 models leaving the showroom in turbo four-pot form instead of the naturally-aspirated V6, turbo fans definitely have something to crow about.

So one-sided is the showroom fight that, according to the lads at Autoblog, Audi is planning to drop the V6 from the A3, A4 and TT for the 2010 model year altogether.

Audi's US Corporate Communications head, Bradley Stertz, told Autoblog:

"We're not backing away from the V6 strategy, We're recalibrating our mix."

Stertz went on to explain that the move is more to do with Audi's expanding line-up than anything else.

A supercharged V6 is headed state-side in the new S4, which, when coupled with upcoming introduction of the TT S and A3 TDI, gives buyers less reason to opt for the NA V6. Audi is currently the only German luxury brand to offer a four-cylinder in the US.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for an official press release but until then we'll be keeping the old "turbo vs displacement" fire burning hot. [Source: Autoblog]
