The new Audi A6 sedan range has arrived in Australia, with updated features and a revised equipment list, including a brand new V6 engine.

Starting from AUD$74,500, Audi - who is weathering the global downturn better than most - has high hopes for its new A6 sedan range that it describes as "an attractive and highly-competitive package". We'd be inclined to agree.

The new Audi A6 is available with a broad range of engines to choose from, featuring direct injection FSI, TFSI and TDI technology, in a choice of four or six cylinders.

Petrol engines:

2.0 litre TFSI• A125 kWturbocharged unit with280Nmof torque.

• Fuel consumption reduced from 8.5 to 7.7 l/100km.

2.8 litre FSI V6• Produces162kW, and280Nmof torque.

• Features Audi Valvelift System (AVS), which manages the inlet valve timing, offering more torque and less fuel consumption.

• Combined fuel consumption is 9.0 l/100km.

3.0 litre TFSI V6• A213kWsupercharged engine making420Nmof torque.

• 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.

• Combined fuel consumption is 9.5 l/100km.

Diesel engines:

2.0 litre TDI(available from May)• Offers125kWand350Nmof torque.

• 0-100kmh in 8.9 seconds.

• Combined fuel consumption of 5.8 l/100km.

2.7 litre TDI V6(available from May)• A140kWengine making400Nmof torque.

• 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds.

• Combined fuel consumption of 6.4 l/100km.

3.0 litre TDI V6• Produces176kW(up from 171kW) and500Nmof torque.

• Combined fuel consumption of 7.1 l/100km

The 2.8 TFSI, 2.0 TDI and 2.7 TDI are mated to Audi’s continuously variable multitronic transmission.

Fuel consumption across the entire A6 range has been lowered by an average 12 percent, thanks to new efficiency measures:

  • Friction reduction management on both pistons and cylinder liners which have been redesigned for maximum efficiency in operation.
  • Ancilliary measures including a redesigned power steering pump and new two-stage oil pump.
  • Improved gearbox measures such as optimised transmission ratios.
  • Engine measures such as new Audi Valvelift System AVS for 2.8 FSI engine.

Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system will be available A6 models powered by the 2.8 FSI, 3.0 TFSI, and 3.0 TDI engines, and mated to Audi’s triptronic transmission.

For improved ride comfort and handling, Audi has added new large-diameter shock absorbers equipped with optimised valve system to the front axle, whilst the vertical configuration of the springs have been re-engineered for improved response characteristics.

High-powered engines come equipped with larger 17” brakes.

Standard equipment has also been enhanced with the inclusion of 17” alloy wheels on the 2.0 TFSI, and 18” alloys on the 2.8 FSI, 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TFSI variants.

Both the 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TFSI come equipped with mobile phone preparation and Xenon headlights.

Several new high-tech assistance systems are also now available as options on the A6 Sedan range.

The Audi Side Assist helps drivers when changing lanes at speeds over 30 km/h.

Audi lane assist helps keep drivers in their own lane, radar-assisted adaptive cruise control keeps a steady distance to the vehicle ahead, and Audi parking system advanced has a rear view camera.

The new A6 Sedan range now features the latest generation of MMI, called MMI Navigation Plus, as standard.

MMI Navigation Plus features a 7” high-resolution 800 x 480 pixel screen.

The MMI control knob located in the centre console now features a joystick capping, allowing the navigation to be operated even more intuitively by scrolling to specific locations on the map display.

An S line sports package is available for those customers wanting to add to the look and feel of their car.  The package includes enhanced performance features such as 18” alloys and sports suspension that lowers ride height by 20 millimetres.

In 2008, Audi sold 221,050 A6 cars around the world.
