Suzuki has given fans their first look at the new Swift Sport ahead of its official debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Finer details for the Japanese brand's pint-sized hot-hatch are a mystery, for now, but it's nice to know the traditional yellow paint finish will continue on into 2018.

However, it is expected that the Swift Sport will ditch the 1.0 litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine in the current top-spec GLX in favour of the 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine from the bigger Vitara SUV.

If so, performance will be boosted to 103kW of power and 220Nm of torque, over the 1.0-litre's 82kW and 160Nm.

Given the new Swift weighs just 870kg the upgraded engine should give it enough go to compete with the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST and Volkswagen Polo GTI.

While Suzuki is keeping mum, the image of the new car reveals the Swift Sport will get a unique front bumper and grille, side sills and alloy wheels to differentiate it from the regular range. Stay tuned for more.
