The elusive next-generation 2012 Audi A6 has been teased further this week in a blurry new promotional video. The clip follows spy photos of the new A6 lapping the Nurburgring in Germany recently.

Little is known at this point, but the new A6 is expected to be built on Audi's lightweight ASF II (Aluminium and Steel Spaceframe) platform, developed to provide rigidity 1.5 times greater than a steel frame, while weighing only half as much.

The ASF platform allows Audi to build chassis frames with multiple separate subframe components, including a modular front and rear and a steel-reinforced aluminium passenger compartment.

Although just speculation for now, engine options are expected to include a 2.8 litre V6 producing 152kW, through to a range-topping 4.2 litre V8 producing 260kW.

As with the Q7 however, the 4.2 litre V8 may be skipped in favour of a supercharged 3.0 litre TFSI engine producing 250kW and 440Nm of torque.

Styling will likely follow in the footsteps of the recently revealed A8 and A7 Sportback, with sharper-than-ever headlights and a purposeful countenance that evolves Audi's current design language.
