ALTHOUGH THE 2011 911 GT2 - recently spied lapping the Nurburgring - is not yet upon us, a single solitary photo appeared online last week, purportedly revealing the hardcore 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Now, three more images have surfaced.

According to website teamspeed.com, the source of the original photo, the 911 GT2 RS was unveiled at a private VIP and dealer event in Leipzig, Germany.

Firm details for the track-oriented GT2 RS are thin on the ground, but - as with the GT3 RS - the special GT2 will likely shed weight and gain a power boost in its elevation to RS status.

Reports online suggest an even more highly-tuned version of the direct-injected turbo engine expected to feature in the GT2 - itself likely to produce more than 400kW of power.

The GT2 RS' weight-loss programme will likely include a lightly stripped interior, lighter wheels and a greater use of carbon fibre, including the bonnet, front splitter and lower rear bumper.

While purely speculation at this stage, the GT2 RS is expected to hit 100km/h in about 3.2 seconds, and according to US website Motor Trend, the hardcore turbo Porsche has been lapping the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:22 - around the same time as the Dodge Viper ACR, and faster than the likes of the Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and the Ferrari Enzo.
