WHILE THE 2010 Kia Venga appears no closer to an Australian launch, spy photos obtained this week reveal that Hyundai is readying its own version of the small hatch.

Little is known about the new Hyundai, rumoured to be named im20, although Hyundai's 'Fluidic Sculpture' design language is likely to define the front and rear styling. We would also expect the Hyundai version of the Honda Jazz-like Venga to gain a slightly more upmarket interior.

Engine options are likely to mirror those find in the Venga, including a 55kW 1.4 litre petrol engine and a 85kw 1.6 litre diesel.

The Kia Venga is currently offered in left-hand-drive only, available in Europe and Korea. The Hyundai version is likely to follow the same path.

With Hyundai Australia readying the local launch of its i20 light car, and with the i30 covering the company's bases in the small car segment, chances of seeing the im20 here are perhaps dim.
