While Citroen is working at overhauling its entire line-up, a number of previous-generation models soldier on. The current Citroen C5, on the market since 2007, has come in for a modest refresh and a pair of new engines.

Cosmetically, the updated C5 remains largely unchanged, with the standout feature being the addition of LED daytime-running-lights and new 'dark crystal' taillight lenses.

On the engine front, the 2011 C5 gets a pair of new powertrains.

The first, the e-HDi engine, pairs a four-cylinder diesel engine with a 'micro hybrid' system that includes stop-start technology and a smart alternator developed to recover braking energy.

Producing 82kW and matched with an electronic automatic transmission with steering-mounted shift paddles, the e-HDi diesel lists fuel consumption figures of just 4.6 l/100km.

The 2011 C5 also gets a new 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine, producing 150kW and 450Nm of torque.

With a 0-100km/h time of 8.3 seconds, the turbodiesel C5 features a six-speed automatic transmission and lists fuel consumption figures of 5.9 l/100km.
