THE SKODA SUPERB, only recently launched in Australia (see TMR's road test) and built on a stretched version of the Volkswagen Passat platform, is set to be joined by a wagon later this year.

Following spy photos of the near production-ready model revealed by TMR last month, a series of official photos has surfaced online today.

Utilising the same wheelbase as the sedan, the Superb Estate features a longer rear overhang to create the extra wagon load-space.

Unique tail-lights also feature at the rear, while the interior mirrors that of the sedan.

The Superb Estate is likely to draw power from the same range of engines available for the sedan, including a 1.6 litre FSI petrol engine, through to a 3.6 litre V6 FSI, with a range of diesel engines on offer.

The 3.6 litre V6 of the sedan comes with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system that’s closely related to that fitted to the Passat R36, while the 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI are front-wheel drive only. Whether this approach will cross over into the estate remains to be seen.

The 2010 Skoda Superb Estate is expected to appear at this month's Frankfurt Motor Show, with a European market debut shortly after.

As for a local launch, Skoda is keeping its cards close to its chest, however more details should be forthcoming this week.
