UNVEILED IN CONCEPT form at last year's Geneva Motor Show as the 'Qazana', Nissan has today revealed a teaser image of its production-ready doppelganger: the Nissan Juke.

While reports in August last year suggested the quirky Qazana crossover could hit the market as an electric car, Nissan has yet to reveal details of what will power the brand's new CUV.

Pointing to customer research undertaken in the European market, Nissan describes the Juke as an alternative to the "traditional, uninspiring small hatchback".

"Nissan caught the mood of the European car-buying public with Qashqai crossover and we've worked hard to study the market in the same way for Juke to be sure we meet the needs of European customers," Nissan Europe's Senior Vice President  or Sales and Marketing, Simon Thomas said.

"We're confident that Juke will bring a new generation of customers to Nissan, in the same way that Qashqai did."

Following in the Qazana concept's footsteps, the Juke will debut at this year's Geneva show in March, with European sales expected to begin shortly after.

While no official word has been given on an Australian debut, the Juke will be built in the UK, suggesting a right-hand-drive version will figure in the line-up.

The question on a local debut will be whether the Juke can slot comfortably into a Nissan line-up that already covers most market segments here and whether it can be priced competitively.
