MITSUBISHI HAS TODAY announced it will use March's Geneva Motor Show to launch the European-market version of its new RVR crossover, where it will be known as the Mitsubishi ASX.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has yet to reveal Australian dates or pricing for the new model, or whether it will be known by the ASX or RVR moniker.

In Europe, the ASX will feature an all-new 1.8 litre turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine among its powertrain options. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, the new engine will also feature Mitsubishi's "Automatic Stop & Go".

While local specifications have not been revealed, Australian-delivered models are expected to be offered with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts.

In Japan, the RVR is powered by a 1.8 litre petrol engine, paired with Mitsubishi's CVT automatic transmission.

Local models are likely to be offered with Mitsubishi's larger 2.0 litre unit and the new 1.8 litre turbo-diesel.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia is expected to announce details for the new crossover's local debut later this month.
