Following the opening of order books in May, BMW has today announced Australian availability for the new range-topping 2010 BMW Z4 sDrive35is, starting at $129,900.

The local launch of the Z4 sDrive35is follows its debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, power coming courtesy of a re-tuned version of BMW's 3.0 litre twin-turbo six cylinder. Styling and handling upgrades come courtesy of the German carmaker's M-Sports division.

With improved air supply and increased boost pressure, the 3.0 litre twin-turbo six of the sDrive35is produces 250kW and 450Nm of torque - up from the sDrive35i's 225kW and 400Nm.

An electronically-controlled 'Overboost' function features in the Z4 sDrive35is' engine management system, allowing a brief 50Nm increase in torque.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via an updated and specially-programmed version of BMW's seven-speed double-clutch transmission.

The sDrive35is covers the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds (equal to the Manual-equipped M3 Coupe), on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.

Despite the extra power, the Z4 sDrive35is lists fuel consumption figures of just 9.0 l/100km. Carbon emissions are rated at 210g/km.

Complementing the increased output and torque, the sDrive35is features M-Sports upgrades including the M Aerodynamics package and adaptive M Suspension.

The M Suspension updates include a ride height reduced by 10mm, and electronically-controlled shock absorbers (Dynamic Damping Control).

Unique 18-inch alloy wheels are featured, with 19-inch versions available as an option.

Revised front and rear bumpers feature as part of the M Aerodynamics package, along with satin silver exterior mirror caps.

Inside, a host of M division additions are featured, including M leather steering wheel and gearshift paddles, M footrest, sports seats, aluminium carbon trim, BMW Individual roof lining, along with M door sills and floor mats.
