TOUTED AS the company's "most advanced 125 production supersport machine ever", Yamaha has today announced the 2009 Yamaha YZF-R125, arriving in local showrooms from late September.

Developed by the same engineers behind the YZF-R6 and the hero YZF-R1, the R125 features a raft of technology derived from the company's extensive MotoGP experience.

Powered by a four-stroke, four-valve single-cylinder 125cc SOHC engine and paired with a six-speed transmission, the YZF-R125 is tuned to deliver optimum torque right through the range to maximum power at 9000rpm.

Built on a Deltabox frame with an aluminium swing-arm, the R125 features lightweight five-spoke wheels, with a large diameter 292mm front disc and 230mm rear disc.

For instant throttle response, the R125 features a compact fuel injection system fed by a large-capacity airbox which, combined with the two inlet valves, delivers optimum intake efficiency and enhanced throttle response across the rev range.

Featuring R-series styling inspired by its bigger R1 and R6 siblings, along with an R6-style mid-ship muffler, Yamaha says the R125 is "targeted at the discerning buyer".

The 2009 Yamaha YZF-R125 will be available from late September, with an RRP of $6999 including GST.
