Word on the wire is that Nissan's roofless variant of the box-fresh 370Z is due to make its global debut at the New York Auto Show in April. More to the story, the Japanese automaker is apparently confident that the all-new ragtop will offer a definite visual improvement over the current 350Z Roadster.

Images of the convertible Z have yet to break cover, but we already have a good idea of what the finished product will look like thanks to those patent office images that we published a couple of weeks ago. While those renderings indicated that the new roadster will likely possess better proportions than its predecessor, the lack of fine contour detail and colour made it hard to form a real opinion.

Thankfully, the folks from GlobalMotors.net have gone a step further and produced their own renderings of the 370Z roadster.

Based on the patent office schematics and Nissan press photos of the 370Z hardtop, GlobalMotors' rendition show the topless Z has much to offer aesthetically. The sharper, more vertical rump offsets the Z34's relatively long nose rather well - the real deal may be an even better looker than the benchmark Porsche Boxster.

The New York Auto show opens on April 8, however we get the feeling we might see the 370Z in-the-metal a little bit before then. Stay tuned folks, we'll keep you posted.
