What’s a Gravatar?

You’re reading this page because you want a nifty little image next to your name whenever you leave a comment.  Think of it as a ridiculously small version of your business card.  Without your phone number.  Or your address.  Or your… Alright, so it’s nothing like a business card.  But everyone else seems to have one, and you want one too.  We get that.

Yeah, Okay, but What’s a Gravatar?

In order to offer our readers the ability to have a picture next to their comments, The Motor Report is hooked in to a system called Gravatar.  Gravatar stands for Globally Recognised Avatar.  What’s an avatar?  Historically, an avatar was… Actually, you can just go and Wikipedia that one.

So, How do I Get One?

To create a gravatar, you need to—surprise surprise—visit www.gravatar.com and create an account.  When you’re creating your account, make sure you give them the same email address and nickname that you intend to use when you leave a comment here at TMR.

Why?  Your email address and nickname are the unique identifying codes that connects your comment here on TMR, to your account at Gravatar.com.  So when you leave a comment here with the same email address and nickname active on your Gravatar account, TMR’s evil master computer will automatically know to display your picture.  And eat all the food in your fridge.  Hey, we said it was evil.

I’m at the Gravatar Website, what Exactly do I Have to do?

Follow the instructions at Gravatar.com!  It’s very straightforward.

I’m not too Computer-Savvy and This Sort of Thing Really Confuses Me!

Well hey, if you can’t follow the steps, you can always grab one of your kids, younger sibling, neice or nephew.  Them young folks just got it all figured these days!  But hey; if you can’t successfully follow the steps on Gravatar.com, how are you ever going to figure out iDrive when you finally get a brand new BMW?

I Made a Gravatar Account, but it’s not Displaying when I Comment!

Yeah, that happens sometimes.  It can take a little while for your account on Gravatar.com to “marry up” to your comments on TMR.  Just keep leaving comments the same way you normally do (remembering what we said above about your email address of course), and it should eventually start displaying your gravatar.

Good Luck!
