Daniel McCoey

It was at the tender age of four or five years old, that Dan fell in love with those shiny metal objects with four wheels. Although his ‘Hot wheels’ collection grew over the years, and he had enough plastic orange racetrack to run from one end of our little house to the other, Dan’s love affair for all things automotive took a quantum leap forward after his father decided to show little Dan what a Porsche 911 3.3 turbo had in common with the “Starship Enterprise” and its warp drive capability. His relationship with cars soon blossomed into a love affair.

Growing up as a skinny freckled kid with every issue of ‘Wheels’ magazine stacked in the corner of his bedroom, Dan has come to realize that, some 25 years later, nothing has really changed. Although he’s traded his ‘Hot wheels’ collection in for a real car, and his plastic orange ‘loop the loop’ track set is now replaced by spending Sunday afternoons writing about cars and his experiences in the motor industry over the last ten years, nothing really has changed.

If not writing, Dan can be found sitting on a pit wall watching his mates race, or failing that, behind the wheel himself. It seems like this relationship with cars is going to stay with him for life.

The emotion and passion as a gangly kid who loved cars back then is just as strong today as it was over 25 years ago. Sometimes people just don’t want, or ‘need’ to grow up…
