Hyundai has officially released the highly-anticipated Genesis Coupe in Korea with full details of pricing and specifications. It is sure to generate some buzz - there and in its intended overseas markets - as the Genesis Coupe appears to be both well-endowed and well priced.

The Genesis Coupe will feature a dual cylinder-type gauge cluster, engine start button, 5.6-inch information display for audio, climate and system controls. USB/iPod and auxiliary inputs are also included as standard.

The RWD Coupe will have a 55/45 front-rear weight distribution and will utilise a McPherson setup in the front-end, while a multi-Link configuration will handle duties in the rear. A front strut-brace will also be available as an option. Mono-tube shocks and a limited-slip differential complete the handling package.

Power will come from one of two engines, a 2.0L turbocharged Theta four-cylinder and Hyundai's new 3.8L Lambda RS V6. On premium fuel the 2.0L will be good for around 157kWs and 300Nms while the V6 will be pushing 230kWs and 360Nms.

A ZF six-speed auto or short-action six-speed manual gearbox will be available for the V6 (it's not specified what gearbox options are available to four-cylinder buyers, expect manual only). Hyundai claims 0-100km/h times of 8.3 and 6.3 seconds for the four and six cylinder respectively, though the gearbox used is not divulged.

Safety should be well-catered for with six airbags and active headrests included to help the Coupe achieve an expected five-star crash rating. Though standard brake specifications are not given, Hyundai will offer Brembo brakes as part of a track-focused performance package with 340mm front and 330mm rear rotors and four-piston calipers. This will combine with the optional Electronic Stability Program to help ensure the Coupe stays on the tarmac.

Directly converting Korean pricing into our currency results in a price range beginning around the AUD$26,000 mark for the base model 2.0L turbo while a fully-optioned V6-equipped Genesis will set you back approximately AUD$38,000. Pricing may differ somewhat when Hyundai releases the Genesis locally but it's a good indicator that the Coupe will be highly affordable.

There are a number of manufactures who should be watching the Genesis Coupe closely. The given price range and specifications list will certainly attract a host of eager test drives when the Coupe is released locally. Couple this with Hyundai's efforts to ensure support from aftermarket performance parts manufacturers and the Genesis Coupe starts to look like a very promising prospect.
