Arguably, the most attention-grabbing vehicle on display at Mitsubishi's Sydney Motor Show stand was the TMR Triton. Now you may be thinking that we've been busy bashing out Triton designs for Mitsubishi, but you'd be wrong, it is the work of another TMR: Team Mitsubishi Ralliart.

The looks are polarising, you're either going to love it or hate it, but look beneath the plastic add-ons and there is plenty to like about this particular 4WD.

The TMR Triton is a concept vehicle which closely represents a production reality. Prepared by Alan Heaphy’s TMR engineering centre at Dandenong, Victoria, the TMR Triton delivers increased power and enhanced performance and handling, whilst preserving the tough, dependable spirit of the Triton.

TMR's boffins have breathed a little more life into the big bore 3.2-litre 4-cylinder common rail turbo diesel engine. Power is up 12 percent to a still understressed 132kW @ 3,800rpm, while torque climbs by 31 percent to a very handy 450Nm @ 2,000rpm when compared to the standard Triton.

The TMR Triton features sharper handling, through an improved suspension set-up that features Koni 8240 series shock absorbers fitted to the front and rear. A front brake package consisting of large four-piston callipers with 343mm x 29mm ventilated and slotted two-piece discs with high performance Ferodo DS25HP brake pads provides increased braking power, and an ABS system with EBD is standard.

Larger 18 x 8 inch Dakar alloy wheels, Pirelli Scorpion ATR 255/55R18 tyres with a symmetrical tread design are fitted to help set the TMR Triton apart from its lesser siblings. Triton's now standard Super Select four-wheel drive system allows driver change from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive on the fly.

Exterior upgrades to the TMR Triton include the addition of a sports headlamp kit and chrome upper and lower sports grille and a massive new tray lid.

Inside, the TMR Triton receives quality stitched TMR logos to the front and rear leather seats. Stainless steel scuff plates and a full carpet mat set. The TMR Triton's audio system has been improved with the addition of an Eclipse CD3200 Multi Source Sound System which has powerful 50W x four internal amplifiers along with USB input, integrated Bluetooth hands-free and full iPod control.

The TMR Triton will be a feature of the Mitsubishi display at the Australian International Motor Show, Sydney, from October 9th-19th.
