RUF Automobile GmbH confirmed via press release that it will be the first manufacturer from Germany to release a fully-electric sports car when it took the wraps of the eRUF Concept. There’s nothing to give it away externally, aside from the lack of engine noise, but take a look out back and things are notably different.

Based on a Porsche 911 and powered exclusively by a three-phase electric motor, the eRUF is claimed to be good for a sub-seven second sprint to 100km/h onto a top speed of over 250km/h. Thanks to its 150kWs of power and 650Nms of torque, the eRUF will lose little of the performance Porsche is famous for, while producing zero emissions.

The lithium iron phosphate batteries take a solid 10 hours for a full charge and, when used in conjunction with the regenerative braking system, can carry the eRUF up to almost 300kms on a single charge.

At this stage the eRUF is still a concept vehicle so specifications are subject to change. Pricing, also unannounced, will be crucial for successful adoption in the market.

Now that a precedent has been set, expect more electric sports cars from Germany in the not-too-distant future. We’ve got no qualms with fully electric vehicles, who doesn’t like instant torque, but would you sacrifice that sonorous flat-six sound for emissions-free motoring?
