Hyundai i30 CW Wagon Unveiled: 2008 Sydney Motor Show

Hyundai today unveiled the new i30 CW (Cross Wagon) at the 2008 Australian International Motor Show.  Based, of course, on the i30 hatch, the i30 CW offers greater luggage capacity and a slightly longer wheelbase.  Revised external sheetmetal is featured to accommodate the longer wheelbase.

The model on display featured 17-inch allow rims with 225/45 R17 tyres, as well as side repeaters in the wing mirrors. It also featured Hyundai's now well-known and highly regarded AUX and iPod connectivity controls, six speakers with tweeters, steering wheel mounted audio controls, six airbags, and ESP Stability Control.  All of this, and a black leather interior.

We might have joked about it once, but all things considered, Hyundai has some fine cars on offer for Australian motorists. One of its best is the awarded i30. (Not bad progress for the company that gave us the Excel).

The i30 CW is powered by the same 1.6-litre CRDi turbo diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines found in the hatch.  No pricing is available yet, but Hyundai says it will announce prices early next year.

The i30 CW is:

230 mm (5%) longer than the i30 hatch at 4,475 mm (i30 hatch is 4,245 mm)

40 mm (6%) taller than the i30 hatch at 1,565 mm (i30 hatch is 1,480 mm)

The i30 CW has:

a 50 mm (2%) longer wheelbase at 2,700 mm (i30 hatch is 2,650 mm)

a 180 mm (25%) longer overhand at 900 mm (i30 hatch is 720 mm)

22 mm (2%) more rear headroom at 1,002 mm (i30 hatch is 980 mm)

35 mm (4%) more rear legroom at 925 mm (i30 hatch is 890 mm)

75 litres (22%) more cargo area when the rear seats are up at 415 litres VDA (i30 hatch is 340 litres VDA)

145 litres (12%) more cargo area when the rear seats are folded down at 1,395 litres VDA (i30 hatch is 1,250 litres VDA)
