Kia has brought the stylish new 2009 Cerato to the Sydney Motor Show, which we’ve previously reported on in its overseas guise as the Kia Forte.
Due for release early next year, the new Cerato will be the first Kia released in Australia to wear to the ‘new face of Kia’ - designed by Kia’s global chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, who joined the manufacturer in 2006 from Volkswagen Group.
Schreyer says design is the number one influence on a new car purchase.
Yes, its looks are clearly derived from the Honda Accord Euro (to these eyes), but let’s be honest: Kia has taken a proven recipe and done a very nice job with the Cerato.
Powered by a new, more efficient 2.0-litre engine with Kia’s Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), Kia says the Cerato offers class-leading power and torque with the power and responsiveness of a 2.2-litre engine without the fuel consumption of larger engines.
The new Cerato is both longer and wider than the current Cerato sedan - a common enough evolutionary path for most cars - the longer wheelbase allows for a more spacious interior with room for five occupants and a larger boot capacity.

i had to do a double check to see if it was the new accord euro, they’ve just ripped the front off the accord and transplanted it onto their cars
shame shame shame

OOOH, so the headlights are similar, doesnt mean that Kia “ripped the front off the accord” and used it on this, open your narrow minded eyes and pay more attention before you make such a stupid comment again.

The person who made this above comment has no idea about the automotive industry. ALL large companies are the same. They are selling a product to make money there is no emotional attachment to the consumer. By the way, Kia and Hyundai are the same company, actually Hyundai bought Kia several years ago. All their cars share the same platforms and components. This car is dated in design terms. There is little or no surface treatment in terms of lines which help to deflect light. Being so flat its quite boring to look at.

To Adam who responed to my comments about companys like Kia keep the Big Guns honest.. seems we have touched a raw nerve… and that says alot!
Adam.. I have more bad news for you..Sales losses will only be compounded by the introduction of Chinese cars due next year.
Whilst saftey issues are of concern, within 6 months of being retested by NCAP Europe ..chinese cars have acquired Rating 3 and getting better.
So Adam, whach you gonna du.. hide under your blanket not not come out till your change your way of thinking?
Thanks for the floor mate
