Cadillac CTS And CTS Coupe Concept: 2008 Sydney Motor Show

GM Premium Brands has used the 2008 Australian International Motor Show to debut its latest import – the Cadillac CTS sedan. Caddy also had a surprise up their sleave, whipping the covers off the stylish CTS-Coupe Concept and revealing that the production model will be heading to Australia in late 2009.

The CTS and hi-po CTS-V have been well-accepted by the world’s motoring press, with the consensus being that Cadillac has produced a well engineered, well made and, in the case of the CTS-V, astoundingly capable new model. A return to the glory days for the brand?

The Cadillac CTS sedan is a recent Motor Trend ‘2008 Car of the Year’ winner and is close to our own home-grown Commodore and Falcon in packaging. That means it’s rear-wheel-drive and powered by a V6; in this case 3.6-litre VVT direct injection V6 engine generating 227kW of power and 370Nm of torque (using a derivative of the Alloytec engine that Holden makes in Australia).

Cadillac calls the CTS’s sharp-edged design language “Art and Science”, although they are unlikely to be the first words that come to mind when the average Aussie sees it in the flesh. The CTS is however distinctive and unlikely to be confused with any other car currently on the road in Australia.

It looks better with the cover on.

Why do Americans think that Australia want all these big, chunky cars down here? Dodge are down here, so are Hummer, Cadillac are coming and then there is the ugly Volt.

Are you serious? I went to the show today and checked it out in the flesh, and the CTS Coupe is one mean mother!

Had a squiz at the CTS sedan, and was very impressed. Looks like a proper rival to the local produce, as well as some of the European imports too. Just hope it drives as well as it looks.
