Peugeot has announced it will debut an all-new 308 model, dubbed the 308 XTS, at this weeks Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. A quick glance over the available specifications reveals that the XTS will be one to watch not just for Pug lovers, but for any hot-hatch enthusiast.

The range-topping 308 XTS will be motivated by the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine employed in the previous generation 207 GTi. A new 6-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard to make the best possible use of the engines commendable 128kWs of power. With peak Torque on tap from a mere 1600rpm, it's no wonder the 1.6L mill has won its category in the International Engine of the Year Awards, two years running.

A revised front bar, rear spoiler and 18" alloy wheels combine with a lowered ride height to ensure the 308 XTS looks as good as it goes. Directional Xenon headlamps, front fog lamps and a chrome exhaust tip are thrown in to round out the visual package.

The cabin receives ample attention also with premium leather-bolstered sport seats, an aluminum gear knob and foot pedals plus a leather trimmed steering wheel all fitted as standard. Bluetooth, dual zone climate control, various trip computers and a tyre pressure warning system are tasteful additions but the crown jewel is easily the panoramic glass roof.

Peugeot's reputation for safety is in good hands with the 308 XTS receiving 7 airbags, ESP, EBFD and ABS all as standard. A full 5-star EuroNCAP crash test rating is testament to the safety of vehicle.

Priced from $38,990 plus dealer-delivery and on-road costs, the Peugeot 308 XTS is sure to attract as much attention in dealerships as it will in Sydney.

It is a pity that the photo on this site isn't a Peugeot 308 XTS
