2008 Mitsubishi Evo X to come with radical clutchless transmission

It has been confirmed that the new Mitsubishi Evo X will be offered with a standard manual gearbox and an optional ‘hard-core’ clutchless paddle shift six-speed.

The paddleshift gearbox which can be operated manually will also offer three modes of operation, normal, sport and ‘super’ sport. Normal and sport settings are for everyday road use while the ‘super’ sport setting has been designed specifically for track work.

The ‘super’ sport setting only allows higher gears to be selected when maximum revs have been reached keeping the turbo-charged mill under maximum boost for as long as possible.

Due to hit showrooms in the UK and Australia in 2008, it is apparent that the price of the Evo X will rise sharply over the outgoing model. Entry level Evo X variants are expected to top £30,000. Australian pricing is not yet known.

In the UK at least a 193Kw 5-door Ralliart Lancer will be available for less than £25,000 for those who no longer wish to stump up the readies for the more expensive Evo.
