Hybrid Camry Headlines Toyota's Green Line-Up At AIMS

Toyota has announced that it will be bringing a LHD hybrid Camry to Sydney for the Motor Show in early October. No, it’s not likely to be as exciting as seeing the Cadillac CTS, nor will the tradies drool over it like they might the Isuzu D-MAX, but it’s bound to tickle a few green fancies.

In fact, Toyota’s AIMS display will have a rather serious hybrid focus, following its recently announced decision to produce Australia's first hybrid car (yes, a hybrid Camry), at Altona in Victoria.

Joining the hybrid Camry on the stand will be the Hybrid X concept, which provides a vision for the future of Toyota and its Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. The ubiquitous Prius, (the world's best-selling hybrid, which has reached global sales of 1.1 million, including almost 11,000 in Australia), will also make an appearance.

The hybrid Camry model on display will be a left-hand-drive US-specification car, brought specially to Australia for evaluation and public display of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive technology.

Production of the Aussie-build hybrid Camry is not due to get under way until 2010. This will be the first chance Aussie motorists will have to check out what is to become 'our own' hybrid.

What they should really do, is have a demonstration of the Camry Hybrid out front - near where they usually have the 4WD demonstration (which is brilliant btw). Show the ordinary Joes what the Camry does, how it works. If it's just on a stand, well some will take notice, but because it looks just like an ordinary Camry, not so many people will learn about it
