We can't wait for next month's Australian International Motor show in Sydney and Elfin has just given us one more reason to be excited. Sydney will play host to the debut of Aussie-icon Elfin's new two-seater sports, currently called the Type 5 (the official name will be revealed when the wraps come off).

Powered by a 194kW 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, sourced from the USDM Pontiac Solstice, the Type 5 is expected to tip the scales at a minuscule 700kgs. The lightweight convertible will be endowed with 351Nms of torque - enough, you'd expect, to see the Elfin pull similar lap times to a V8 supercar on any given circuit.

With a specific power output close to 280kWs per tonne, the Elfin should be capable of 0-100 times somewhere in the 4 second range. A six-speed manual transmission will combine with traction control and anti-lock brakes to ensure drivers can extract maximum performance when desired.

With an asking price expected in the $60k range, the new Elfin will provide an exceptional bang-for-buck equation. With these price and performance credentials, Lotus might want to keep a close eye Elfin's operations.
