BMW’s 2009 model 7 Series may have been officially revealed at the Moscow Motor Show in July this year, but that hasn’t stopped the Bavarian manufacturer getting excited about the upcoming unveiling at the Paris Motor Show early next month. In preparation for the Paris appearance, BMW has released a swag of new images to get ‘well-heeled’ punters champing at the bit.

The Paris Motor Show will display at least 6 different variants of the 7 Series sedan beginning with the straight-six diesel engined 730d. A familiar 3.0L twin-turbo petrol engine will power the 740i and 740il long-wheel base models, while the 750i and 750il long-wheel base models receive the same 4.4L twin-turbo V8 as seen in the X6. To top it all off, a hybrid model will also be on display; more details coming on that here.

The feature list is bristling with all you’d expect from a top-level European vehicle and includes the Side View Camera system, Park Distance Control, Lane Departure Warning, Heads-up Display, and the new Integral Active Steering system (four-wheel steer).

‘Infotainment’ is catered for by the latest iteration of BMW’s iDrive system, which also includes large headrest-mounted screens for rear passengers. BMW allows even greater control over the iDrive system by offering rear passengers their very own iDrive rotary controller.

BMW will also offer a pedestrian sensing night-vision system and an active chassis management system on the 7 Series. The new chassis system, called IMS, will allow the driver to select between Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport Plus settings. Each will alter the shock absorbers, steering response, gear change speed and smoothness, as well as the sensitivity of the stability control system.

Expected to hit showrooms in November this year with pricing ’similar’ to the current model (read not cheap), the 2009 model BMW 7 Series is sure to be a smash hit with those for whom too much opulence isn’t quite enough.

“the 2009 model BMW 7 Series is sure to be a smash hit with those for whom too much opulence isn’t quite enough.”

‘Opulence’ I like it, the BMW 7 series summed up in one word :)

A more sedate, boring looking saloon I cannot imagine. That said, that’s more or less exactly what most 7-series buyers want from their Beamer, so that’s understandable.

It has to be understated, but also have presence. I think all of the past 7 series have fulfilled that criteria, but personally I don’t think we’ve seen a truly pretty 7 since the E38 of 1994-2001.
