The 2009 Detroit Motor Show is pegged as the launch venue for Jaguar's XFR and XKR performance saloons. The new and improved models are expected to continue Jaguar's success with the beautiful XF range. Both models will come with excellent credentials that should see them trading punches with some of Germany's finest.
The existing 313kW 4.2L supercharged V8 engine has been increased to 5.0-litres while gaining direct-injection to boost power to a mouth-watering 380kWs and 678Nms. Expect 0-100 sprint times of around 4.5 seconds though official times will have to wait until launch.
Both models will carry a raft of improvements above and beyond the upgraded engine. Large bonnet vents and revised front and rear to improve aerodynamics, and help keep engine and intercooler temperatures in check, also feature on the new models.
To cope with all the extra mumbo, Jaguar has fitted bigger exhaust outlets, larger wheels, superior brakes and re-tuned the chassis. This should ensure the new 'R' enhanced models behave as well when on the anchors - and through the bends - as they perform in a straight line.
Expected to hit dealerships around May '09, the Jaguar XKR and XFR will go a long way to bolstering interest in Jaguar vehicles across the range. If each garners as much praise as the existing XF, then Jaguar can expect a few more awards to place on the mantle.

XK just come across to me as a poor man's Aston Martin.
