It is widely known that GM is doing it tough. Unfortunately, the hits keep coming for our American cousins with Chevrolet announcing it will cease Corvette production for one week, starting October 6th, in response to shrinking demand and declining sales.
The news gets worse with Chevy set to shed up to 75 workers from the Bowling Green’s facility during the stoppage (on top of tens of thousands shed from GM plants and closures across North America). The job loses will come as a result of scaled back production targets for the ‘Vette which will drop from 18.5 cars per hour to 15 cars per hour when operations get back underway.
With an 8.5 percent drop in Corvette sales through August compared to last year, little wonder that GM is making moves to ensure the survival and long term viability of the iconic muscle car.
It’s certainly not good news for Chevrolet fans but it’s not time to panic just yet. The Corvette has been in production since 1953 and has experienced production cuts during that time. If nothing else the Corvette has certainly proven to be resilient.

All this talk of Hybrids, $ per barrel, reduced Corvette production, Emissions Trading Schemes… it’s enough to make a man depressed…..
Yeah it’s a sad state of affairs but something that’s been a long time coming.
Unfortunaltely Corvette has probably NEVER been cleaner, Greener or Safer than this current version.

That demand is shrinking for a car as good, bang-for-buck, as the Corvette in America just shows how barse-ackwards the world is becoming.
Take two teaspoons of concrete and harden the f**k up, America. Buy more Corvettes.
