Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid Testing in the UK

Toyota and UK's EDF Energy and have teamed up to begin testing the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid vehicle(PHV). As the name implies, the PHV can be connected to a mains socket to recharge the on-board batteries and continue on its merry way.

Trials started yesterday as EDF employees began using the PHV for their everyday driving duties and will continue for a full year. With these trials, Toyota will gain valuable information to assist in development of the plug-in Prius before releasing the model to market.

Toyota has been running eight PHV's in Japan since late July last year. With over a full year of comprehensive data-logging already completed, we're wondering if Toyota is less concerned with testing and more interested in gauging public reaction to the vehicle.

With Chevrolet's Volt PHV nearing full release, Toyota must be feeling some pressure to get the Prius plug-in hybrid to market sooner rather than later.
