2010 Vauxhall Astra Teaser Images Released

Vauxhall, GM’s British subsidiary, has been kind enough to release a trio of teaser images of its all-new Astra, well ahead of the official launch at next years Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Both the five-door and three-door models are shown, in black and white respectively, and while the images provided are fairly low on detail, it’s clear that the new Astra will share styling cues with the recently released Insignia.

Said to feature a “wrap-around interior with a wing-line sweep that links the instrument panel to the door” (like the Insignia), the Astra range will feature some of the latest innovations found on its mid-sized brother.

The raft of features available will include GM Opel’s Front Camera System, designed to read traffic signs and take note of the vehicles movements within its lane of travel, and the next generation Adaptive Front Lighting system, which provides nine unique lighting options to improve visibility.

Based on GM’s latest Delta platform, the Astra will be be available with a new range of engines designed to maximize fuel economy, though specifics are not yet available.

GM Europe’s Vice President of Design, Mark Adams outlined Astra’s new direction;

“The present Astra already combines a high level of technical substance and emotional styling, but with the new car we are taking a big step forward in both respects, while emphasising its sporting credentials.”

With Opel’s Insignia already confirmed for local consumption, we’ve got our fingers crossed that Holden make the same wise move with the new Astra. If the new model is to be styled in a similar fashion, then it could provide Holden with an aesthetically pleasing and (in keeping with the current Astra’s on-road capabilities) dynamically competent, representative in the small car sector.
