BMW Announces Pricing for its First-Ever V8 Twin Turbo: The X6 xDrive50i Sports Activity Coup

Longest news title ever?  Quite possibly.  It seems it's all true though, as BMW has announced its first-ever V8 twin turbo production engine will lob into dealer showrooms in December, packaged up in the car with possibly the longest name ever; the X6 xDrive50i Sports Activity Coup.

While squeezing a stonking 300kW and 600Nm of torque from the TT V8's 4.4 litres, BMW says that aside from providing more power and torque than its closest rivals, the engine offers far greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions than them as well.  All this comes courtesy of direct petrol injection combined with a pair of turbochargers nestled within the V of the engine; one per cylinder bank.

Linear power and rapid acceleration is the name of the xDrive50i's game, with the direct injection eliminating turbo lag and the fast-spooling turbines turning waste gases into additional thrust at their 175,000rpm peak.

Literally throwing itself to 100kmh in just 5.4 seconds, the X6 xDrive50i is fitted with BMW's intelligent xDrive, distributing power between the front and rear axle as needed. Fast cornering and sudden high-speed manoeuvres are assisted by BMW's Dynamic Performance Control which determines the distribution of drive between the rear wheels.

Of course, all ballistic missiles should come with an appropriate braking system, and the X6 xDrive50i 20-inch alloy wheels barely disguise the 385mm rotors with aluminium floating calipers for enhanced fade resistance and maximum stopping power.

Performance aside, the X6 xDrive50i is loaded with the sort of technology one would expect, such as Adaptive Drive, Self-levelling Pneumatic Suspension, Comfort Access, Head-Up Display, and a host of other luxury features.

The new X6 xDrive50i can be had from $145,000 plus dealer delivery and on-road costs.  Look for it in December.

    Pimpin'.

If I had enough money to pay for petrol for it, I'd want one to cruise around in. Maybe with the inevitable Hamann bodykit and Hartge tuning.

    Isn't it called "Coupe"?

Yeah, sounds like a beaut engine, but I actually prefer the looks of the X5; I think this looks a little feminine, especially in that colour. No doubt we'll be seeing plenty around Toorak and Mosman.

BTW surely the longest name would be
Subaru Impreza WRX Type R STi?
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR FQ 400?

Imagine the trunklid badge! It's be longer than my arm fo' shiz.
