Coupe fans have been patiently waiting for the release of Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe. Why? Well, for starters it’s RWD, rumoured to be affordable and known to be packing 2.0-litre turbo or V6 power. Or in other words, a recipe that will put a smile on any old-school coupe fan. At one point there were even rumuors of a range-topping model that was to borrow the Genesis sedan’s Tau V8.
Although the Genesis Coupe is still a few weeks shy of its launch in Korea, we can reveal a bunch of pricing and model specifications, along with two promotional videos.
Hyundai even loosened up enough to provide some performance information on the 380 GT version of the Coupe. Powered by a mildly re-tuned version of the Lambda V6 that powers the Genesis sedan, the 380 GT will belt from 0-100km/h in a respectable 6.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 240km/h.

More expensive than I thought. In the states you could buy a Pontiac G8 GT for less than the base model 380GT. I wonder if Hyundai will be spruiking the Coupe with special US only price like Holden do with G8 GT?
30 grand USD… so what’s that going to magically turn into, like 70 grand Australian? Nobody would fork over that much for a Hyundai, regardless of how good the car is…
The price will make or break this car. At 30k USD, even if that turned into say, $50k AUD, it’s still pretty expensive. Will just have to wait and see I guess.
Current Hyundai Tib = between AUD$35-$40K.
Upper end of the 200SX range (Spec-R) was $46,990 back in 2002.
I’d say for this car to make it in Aus it would need to cost no greater than $49,900.
Any word on fuel consumption? the Tiburon V6 is known to be quite thirsty and I’m sure many an owner is feeling the pinch atm
As a Nissan Silvia fan, I hope this is a return to an affordable RWD coupe. Being turbo would be even nicer, as if Hyundai gets the chassis right it’ll be a great platform for all kinds of motorsport.
Given that Hyundai has been courting the aftermarket with big-name US tuners working on the car for SEMA, it bodes well in our current “Fast & Furious”, must-customise, car culture if they’re mod friendly and there’s plenty of (cheap) parts to pick up.
Think of the mint they could make by selling it ‘at cost’, they’ll more than make up for that with tuning and styling upgrades.
They made a really shrewd decision to get US tuners input on the car as you say; now they’d be muppets to stuff it up now by pricing out of the market the very people that it appeals to.
I work with a Korean guy and he said that most cars over their are 20-30% higher in pricing than the states. I hope they repackage the options as stated in the pre-release info. (I want that premium stereo if specs are good, heard the 605-watt version and it rocks !!!) The V6 GT / GLS is still looking favorable.
So the gen coupe V6 was suppose to be 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds and now they said that is going to be 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds, what up with that that is not good at all.
