Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR Record Lap of the Nurburgring Videos

Japan vs North America in Germany. Those who remember the ‘late unpleasantness’ back in the 40’s probably shake their heads in wonder. Thankfully, for performance car fans, it’s all about the Nurburgring and a golden age for performance car bench-marking, around the most notorious race track in the world.

Japan took out round one early this year with a blistering 7:29 lap of the ‘green hell’ in its new R35 GT-R. We all knew that the General was up next with the ZR1 Corvette and the debate raged – until the ZR1 fired off a 7:26. End of debate.

Not to be outdone, Dodge then rolled out the Viper ACR, a barely disguised track-day special but a production road car none-the-less and fired off a blistering 7:22.1. Game over – at least until Nissan roll-out the more powerful and lighter-weight V-Spec GT-R.

The official videos below show you what the Viper ACR’s record lap looks like from two different angles, inside the cockpit and via a camera attached to the ACR’s right flank. Perhaps the most impressive feat is that the record lap was achieved with SRT engineer Tom Coronel at the wheel, and he had never driven the ‘Ring before his record run. Coronel achieved the 7:22 time on just his fifth lap. You have to assume he knows his car…

Far out- never driven the ‘ring before and did that, in a Viper; that’s an exceptional effort. Maybe he’s done a few 100 laps on Gran Turismo? :P
