Maybe it’s because they’ve been passing around the red lollies in Mazda’s design bunker that its latest styling exercise, the Kiyora, looks so ‘off the wall’. Maybe it’s the sugar and the red food die that’s responsible for those lines. And maybe that’s why its name sounds like a famous Aussie cordial.
Whatever the reason, thank-you Mazda for busting out of the mould. Keep taking those lollies: in a world of ’sameness’ and conformity, we salute the free thinkers.
If you want to view this latest “lightweight, next generation, urban compact concept car”, then you’ll need to book your flights soon - it’s to be revealed at the 2008 Paris International Motor Show opening Thursday October 2nd, running until the 19th of October.
Mazda’s Kiyora, meaning ‘clean and pure’ - referring to its design integrity, one assumes, rather than its bedroom habits - is designed to “represent harmony between driving pleasure and environmental and safety features” (we’re referring to Mazda’s press release here… stay with us on this, they always sound OTT).
Powering the concept is Mazda’s next-generation four-cylinder direct-injection engine and underneath is an all-new lightweight platform. Joining it on Mazda’s stand at the Paris Motor Show will be the Mazda MX-5 facelift making its world debut. “Zut, formidable…”

Anyone else sick to freakin’ death of Mazda’s concepts? Sure they’re crazy, often awesome, but come on. Mazda, you need to temper all these great concepts with some actual promise of a new RX-7 or SOMETHING like that. Come on! The RX-8 isn’t a real sports car, it’s just sport looking and has a little bit of go. That’s not the real Mazda we all know and miss.
How about an RX-7 MPS!!
