SEAT Unveils Ibiza Cupra

While the official unveiling is not due until the Paris Motor Show, SEAT has been kind enough to reveal a handful of pics and a few specifications on its up-coming hot hatch, the Ibiza Cupra. Destined for the European market - drivers there are becoming spoiled for choice - the Cupra features the latest version of Volkswagen’s 1.4-litre TSI engine.

The Cupra generates a punchy 133kWs from its supercharged and turbocharged four-banger, putting power down to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox. ESP and Traction control are thankfully included as standard.

Sitting on 17-inch wheels and stiffer suspension, the exterior signals the Cupra’s sporting intent. A new front bar features a prominent grill and air dam (with the obligatory fog-lights) while the rear treatment features a faux diffuser and single large exhaust tip that hides twin pipes inside.

Official pricing and specifications have not been released as yet but expect the Cupra to be priced between AUD$30k-$35k. If that pricing is correct, would you want to see the Ibiza Cupra available locally?

That’d be a turbocharger and a supercharger, if it’s the VW TSI engine, not two turbos…

$35k seems pretty cheap!

You’re spot on Ches and thanks for the tip. The vast majority of sources are reporting a twin-turbo setup but the 1.4L TSI engine is indeed a supercharged and turbocharged donk.

Given the Spanish press release, we think there may have been some confusion in the translation.

Cheers

Would be awesome if we got this over to oz.30-35K would be pretty cheap.

Looks to me like they borrowed the Mazda2’s designer. Check that side profile out.

Should the re-charging infrastructure be in place, what is your view about all-electric cars:
